Beginning in January, Kent State's WebCT Vista course management system will be integrated with the Banner student registration system. The process will allow the two systems to share student and course information.
Please read the following information very carefully:
Benefits
Many features of the Banner integration will make the WebCT Vista experience easier for instructors. Among these are the:
* Automatic creation of WebCT Vista user accounts when new Banner accounts are created
* Automatic creation of WebCT Vista course accounts when each semester’s courses are loaded into Banner
* Real-time, automatic syncing of registered/withdrawn students between the systems
* One-click midterm and final grade transfers from WebCT Vista to Banner for inclusion in the student’s official records
Important Changes
Several changes also will affect you as a result of this integration:
(i) Course /Section Changes:
* Students will NOT see any content until the instructor activates the course.

*The sections will be named differently for example for Spring 2008 section you will they named as: ANTH-18210-001-200810
* Instructors will no longer need to request the creation of the fresh/blank course manually.
A blank course shell will now be automatically created in WebCT Vista for every course, based on Banner data and naming.
* Instructors who want their content copied to current semester course from content developed anytime before December 2008 MUST fill out the form available here
(ii) User Management and Roster changes :
*Course rosters, which are updated in real time, also will be created automatically.
* It is no longer necessary for instructors to request the roster be pulled into WebCT Vista.
* Please check the Graebook of your course (under Teach tab) after 1'st week of January to make sure all students have been uploaded to your course. Click Here to see how to access Grade book.
* Instructors will no longer manually need to remove students from the roster if they drop the class.
*Students who drop the class will be automatically denied access to the Vista course.
Warning: Once a student has been removed from the Grade Book of a course, all data they previously entered in the system will be lost (including all grades, any assignments, quizzes they might have completed, all mail, discussions etc) Please make sure that all data has been backed up and before you do that.Click Here to view how you can backup your entire course
* We will no longer be creating any guest accounts for users in Vista. If you have any colleagues, students who are non-kent users (do not have a Flashline account) must contact the Helpdesk .
* If you would like another faculty member to be added to your course as an Instructor (to have full access to the Grade book) they must be registered in Banner as instructor. Please contact the Helpdesk for this issue.
(iii) Grade Information
*Primary instructor (Only) of the course will now be able to submit Final and Midterm grades from Vista to Banner duirng the grade period.
*The Grades should be submitted through Vista only once.

Check Your Information
Instructors are encouraged to log in to the WebCT Vista system between Jan. 7 and the beginning of the spring semester to review their courses and any copied content thoroughly.

WebCT Vista allows instructors to create and manage Web-based learning materials and activities. It’s a way to put together course materials online, giving students easy access to the syllabus, handouts and review materials, as well as providing them with a place to interact with each other and the instructor.
